Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
My son started gym at Kenridge School two weeks ago (in the “fledgling class”). Could you please let me know how I pay for the classes, how much is owing and when classes end for the year?
Children attending our Kenridge classes pay the KPS school directly for the termly fees. Administration fees, Competition fees and clothing must be paid for directly to Gym Wizards. Each school has a different timetable, but our classes at KPS end mid November each year. Phone KPS on 021 9763046.
Do I have to give notice for my child to stop gym lessons?
Yes, we require 1 terms notice for cancellation of fees. That means you must give notice IN WRITING, in the term prior to which you want to stop. If you no longer want to continue in the 3rd term, you must have told us during the course of the 2nd term.
Can I pay pro-rata for my fees if my child if misses some lessons?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow parents to pay pro-rata as we work on a budget and have expenses. If we allow parents to pay pro-rata it would be impossible to create a budget and pay our coaches and buy and repair equipment etc. If you start with Gym Wizards half way through the term you can pay half fees for that term.
Can I pay the coach cash?
No we request parents to please make payment into our account via EFT or Direct Deposit. We have many children and classes and it is very hard to keep track of money coming in if it is paid in cash to the coach.
Can I watch my child’s gymnastics class?
We prefer parents not to watch during the lessons. It is very important that the children concentrate and listen to the coaches instructions to ensure that no one gets hurt. We find that when parents are in the class the children get distracted. We do have a parents watching day for the parents at the end of the Term as well as our competitions (2 x per year)- that we encourage you to come along and be a part of. Of course, under special circumstances, exceptions can be made.
How do I get my child’s unique reference number?
Please go to www.gymwizards.co.za/enrol to enrol your child, once you have completed the form you will be given a unique code.
This code must be reflected with all payments.
If I join gym half way through the term will I be liable for the full term fees?
No, if your child is a new and you have joined in the middle of the term you may pay 50% of the fees.

My child wears glasses and I know this affects sport as a whole. Any suggestions from your side on this? As I am sure you deal with plenty of other kids/adults that have a visual problem. Sometimes sport teachers tell her to take off her glasses, to point out- her vision is 20%, she cannot see after 3 meters. By taking off her glasses, her confidence levels drop below zero, however I also understand that sport teachers have a problem – especially IF the glasses should break during ball games etc… Your advice please….
We suggest that you purchase a strap so that her glasses can be strapped around her head which would prevent them from falling off. Many Gymnasts do gymnastics this way. There is a slight risk with wearing the glasses during the class, however, the risk of doing gymnastics (or any sport) if she cannot see is far greater.
My child is not the most sporty type of person, gymnastics I am sure does not come easy for her. If you do feel that it isn’t the right sport for her to pursue…. As I am sure eventually it will affect her to see all her friends move from one colour level to the next. Would you suggest a sport to me that you feel will be good and positive for her?
Gymnastics is definitely the best sport for her to be doing especially because she is not a sporty child. Gymnastics is not just a sport it is also an important development tool. Gymnastics develops children’s balance and co-ordination as well as strengthens muscle tone which will assist her in any other sport. Gymnastics also helps children in the class room as it improves concentration as well as self esteem. In a study done by the United States Elite Coaches Association for Women’s Gymnastics it was proven that Gymnastics and early childhood movement education are directly attributed to developing neurological pathways for reading and maths in students.
When are the competitions?
We have 2 competitions per year. A winter competition that takes place in the second term and the summer competition in the forth term.
Which classes -at which venue and with which coach- shall I put my child into?
- You can see which venue suits you best here. You can also view each individual school, with their coaches and fee structures by visiting this page.
http://www.gymwizards.co.za/about/locations/
- You must choose a class that corresponds to your child’s level e.g a beginner child would choose a pre-yellow or yellow class to join. If you are bronze, silver or gold- you must practice twice a week.

What must my child wear to gymnastics?
Gymnasts should always be suitable and neatly dressed. Boys are to wear shorts and T-shirt- and the girls may wear leotards (long or short sleeved).
Lycra leggings are permitted and on cold days, a tracksuit. Gym Wizards have a full clothing range including a tracksuit, padded jacket, golf shirts, polo fleece tops, shorts and a tog bag. We do recommend the children wear the Gym Wizards clothing range as most of the children wear the Gym Wizards clothing and it makes them feel part of a team.
Hair is to be tied back FIRMLY and fringes clipped back out of the face. No jewellery please!
Why is my child practicing in “red” level but competing in “blue” level?
After your child has progressed into the next level, they may have mastered some of the new skills- but not all of them. We feel it is better for this child to then repeat the previous level’s skills- and do well at the competition (2nd time around)- rather than enter the new level and not do so well.
Many children benefit from repeating their level. We find that they gain valuable experience from learning to compete, perfecting the skills technically and handling nerves. In the meantime they are still constantly developing their new level’s skills in training- ready for competition next time round!
How Will I Know If My Child Is Ready for the Competition
The Gym Wizards 6 step System has been designed to cater for absolute beginners up to advanced level gymnasts.
Starting at Yellow Beginner and moving through Blue, Red, Bronze, Silver and Gold, the qualified Gym Wizards coaches will place your child in the appropriate section to ensure maximum success and development of confidence during performance.
Whether your child has had 2 lessons or been doing gym for 5 years- there’s a competition level just for him/her!
And remember, each child receives a medal because everyone is a winner at Gym Wizards.
